Head, neck and facial pain affect a significant percentage of the
population (one in every four Americans) seeking care for both acute

Dental Sleep Medicine
Sleep disordered breathing, snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
affect more adults than asthma does, with an estimation of at least
90 million people being affected by at least one of the many disorders.
Approximately 87 million Americans report
that they snore, (Cleveland Clinic) and 32% of Americans report that
they are sleeping 6 hours or less per night. Approximately 100
million people report feeling sleepy while driving. Excessive
daytime sleepiness is a result of poor sleep, and causes an increase
in motor vehicle accidents, an increase in work related accidents,
poor job performance, memory loss, depression, and a general decrease
in the quality of life. Patients with oral sleep apnea often
suffer the additional consequences of hypertension, coronary heart
disease and stroke. It is very important that any complaints
of sleep difficulties be promptly evaluated by a medical doctor trained
in sleep medicine. For the patients with OSA that are not able
to tolerate CPAP, a referral to a dentist trained in sleep medicine
can now offer other options. We can help! |
